Group holidays in Exmoor & North Devon at Exmoor Cottage Holidays

The charming stone-built cottages at Exmoor Cottage Holidays are ideal for large families and group holidays in Exmoor and North Devon, accommodating up to twenty-two people in five cottages. The charming letting cottages are comfortable, well-equipped and surrounded by three acres of beautiful grounds with plenty of parking. They are just 300 yards from an award-winning pub and a friendly village shop; and there are lots of things to see and do nearby.

The cottages are in the peaceful village of Challacombe, within the Exmoor National Park and are easy to reach from most of the UK, being only 50 minutes drive from the M5 and 3 hours drive from the Midlands and the South East.

The Farmhouse is our largest cottage, sleeping up to six people in three bedrooms, and Inglenook Cottage is next largest, also with three bedrooms, sleeping up to five. The two-bedroomed cottages, Garden Cottage and The Gatehouse, can accommodate up to four and five people respectively, and one bedroomed Wisteria Cottage is perfect for a couple. Wisteria and Garden Cottage are both single storey and ideal for those in your group who have difficulty with stairs.

The cottages all have character features and log fires. Outside each cottage is an enclosed garden with a picnic table, and the large grounds are ideal for group activities, picnics and barbecues. There are lots of different areas of the grounds to explore, including a wildlife pond; wild flower meadows; fruit gardens; a delightful walk up and around Humphrey's Hill and a climbing frame and play area for children.

We offer a beautiful place to stay and the personal attention you would normally receive in a B&B or hotel so that you get the very most from your group holiday. We are on site every day to help you with any enquiries and provide a chambermaid service (unless you don’t want to be disturbed!). We leave a free basket of logs and kindling in each cottage and are happy to help you light your fire and show you how to keep it going. We can usually provide a BBQ, high-chair, cot, stair gate, fire-guard, and a free laundry service so that you can enjoy your day to the full, and we offer towel and linen hire, self-cook evening meals (home-made by our local shop, who can also deliver groceries for your arrival) and other house-keeping services including full cottage cleaning, B&B and dog-sitting.

The local shop is only a couple of minutes walk from the cottages and sells groceries, excellent home made cakes, alcohol, snacks, and lovely clotted cream teas. The local pub next door, the Black Venus, serves award winning home made food, real ales and good wines - ideal for a large dinner party.

There are many walks around Challacombe and the surrounding hills, and lots of very well known walks within a short drive, including Watersmeet; the Valley of Rocks; Tarr Steps; the Doone Valley; Horners Wood; and Braunton Burrows. There are several sandy beaches nearby, including Croyde, Woolacombe and Saunton Sands; hidden rocky coves, such as Woody Bay, Lee Bay, Heddons Mouth and Hele Bay; and lots of interesting places to visit, including Ilfracombe, Lynton, Porlock, Dunster and Instow.

You are spoilt for different group activities in Exmoor and North Devon. You can go swimming, paint balling, quad bike riding, high ropes climbing, horse riding, golfing, clay pigeon shooting, surfing, canoeing, coasteering, cycling, mountain biking, angling and fishing. We are happy to help you to arrange the group activities of your choice, please ask.

Thanks partly to Johnny Kingdom, Exmoor is well-known for its unique wildlife, and in particular the Red and Roe deer and Exmoor ponies, which originate on Exmoor and are not found elsewhere in the wild. They are all fairly secretive and shy, but there are places on the moor where they can usually be seen, and we will be happy to advise. Goats have lived on Exmoor since prehistoric times, but died out and the present herd, in the Valley of Rocks outside Lynton, was introduced in the 1970's.

In 2011 Exmoor was the first place in Europe to be designated as an International Dark Skies Reserve. It was felt that when considering light pollution and cloud cover together, Exmoor is the best place in the UK for gazing at the stars.

Exmoor Cottage Holidays are ideal for your group holidays in Exmoor and North Devon. The spacious well appointed cottages all have log fires and are surrounded by enchanting wildlife gardens; there is an award winning pub a short walk away, and lots of places to see and things to do within a short drive.
