EXMOOR COTTAGE HOLIDAYS
The traditional C18th Inglenook Cottage is the second largest holiday rental cottage for hire at Exmoor Cottage Holidays (after the Farmhouse) and has a spacious living room with an inglenook fireplace and log burner, separate well equipped kitchen (including a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer) and three upstairs bedrooms that can very comfortably accommodate up to five people + cot.
Inglenook Cottage was built around 1700AD, extended to the rear during the following century and the living room ceiling was lifted around 1850.
The living room still retains an original stone inglenook fireplace with a bread oven and salt cupboard and the double bedroom has a Georgian fireplace, installed over an earlier fireplace when the ceiling was lifted.
Inglenook Cottage faces south and has a large living room with a special timeless charm that comes with age. The cottage was completely renovated in 2010 with a new kitchen, bathroom and third bedroom. The windows were double glazed and the roof and external walls insulated. The furnishings and decorations are all in a traditional style and where possible old features have been retained.
There is a fully enclosed private garden to the rear with built in stone seating and a garden area to the front with a picnic table. There is plenty of parking on site nearby.
Inglenook Cottage has a well equipped kitchen with everything you need (electric oven, hob, hood, fridge with large freezer compartment, toaster, kettle, crockery and cutlery, etc.) and many extras such as microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. An iron and ironing board, a mop and bucket and a Henry hoover are provided in the cupboard under the stairs. Heating is from electric night storage radiators; an instant electric heater in the bath room; and optionally, a log stove in the sitting room. Hot water is provided by an immersion heater.
The living room overlooks the front garden and has a log burner in the inglenook fireplace, digital Freeview TV, a DVD/CD player, plenty of comfortable seating and a dining table with chairs. The two larger bedrooms face south overlooking the peaceful courtyard.
The double bedroom has a built in wardrobe, a chest of drawers, bedside tables, lamps and a Georgian fireplace (not functioning). The second bedroom has a ziplink bed that can be arranged either as a king size bed or two singles. This bedroom also has a large chest of drawers and bedside tables and lamps. The third bedroom, a single facing east, has a dressing table, drawer space under the bed and a bedside table and lamp.

We don’t just provide self-catering accommodation, but a beautiful place to stay and personal attention usually found only in B&B’s and hotels, so that you can get the very most from your holiday. We are usually on site every day for your enquiries, and leave a free basket of logs and kindling in the cottage (more is usually available) and we are happy to light your fire and show you how to keep it going.
The large grounds have a wildlife pond and lovely walks up to Humphrey’s Hill where there is a children’s play area and a wildflower meadow ideal for exercising dogs. There is a bird-feeder outside each cottage (filled daily), some tame ducks on the pond, and you are welcome to help yourself to any of the fruits and herbs in the grounds (not everything is edible, please ask if unsure).
We know North Devon and Exmoor well and are very happy to help you plan your days out, show you the best walks and places to visit on an Ordnance Survey map (which you may borrow) and help you make arrangements with local businesses, e.g. taxi, vehicle repairs, sight-seeing tours, horse-riding lessons, restaurants, fishing trips, etc., and we always have some special deals arranged for our guests. We also offer towel and linen hire, self-cook evening meals (home-made by our local shop, who can also deliver groceries for your arrival) and other house-keeping services including full cottage cleaning, B&B and baby-sitting – but if you just want self-catering and don’t need our help, then that’s OK too!Download the Access Statement and Floor Plan for Inglenook Cottage
