COMFORTABLE COTTAGES

Comfortable two and three bedroom holiday hire cottages in a sheltered valley on Exmoor in North Devon, surrounded by large and enchanting gardens. The four stone cottages have been converted from a traditional Devon farm, "Town Tenement" and retain much of their historic charm. Character features include stone inglenook fireplaces, beamed ceilings and ledged and battened doors. The cottages are warm, comfortable and well equipped - each has a log fire (wood burning stove) and a small private garden - ideal accommodation for your holidays in Exmoor.

The cottages surround a pretty courtyard near a quiet country lane in the small pretty village of Challacombe. The FARMHOUSE was probably originally a single story Devon longhouse built in the C16th, with a central passage. To one side ("Upperside") was the living room with an inglenook fireplace, and on the other side ("lowerside") was the barn where the animals were kept. The second storey was probably added to the FARMHOUSE at the end of the C17th and INGLENOOK cottage was probably added at the same time. GATEHOUSE and GARDEN COTTAGE are converted from former farm buildings with GARDEN COTTAGE having the benefit of being all on one level.
