WALKING HOLIDAYS IN DEVON

Walking holidays in North Devon & Exmoor

Walking holidays on the North Devon coast Walking holidays are very popular in Devon and it is no exaggeration to say that North Devon and Exmoor are a walkers paradise, with some of the finest walks in the South West.

The self-catering cottages at Exmoor Cottage Holidays, in the peaceful Exmoor village of Challacombe, are an ideal base from which to explore all the best walks in the region, with most of the Exmoor National Park, and the coastline of Somerset and North Devon, within 30 minutes drive. This includes many well known walks, for example Heddon's Mouth at Hunters Inn; the Valley of Rocks, Watersmeet and Countisbury Hill near Lynmouth; Tarr Steps and Hawkridge near Withypool; Dunkery Beacon and Horners Wood near Porlock;  the Doone valley near Barbrook; the Tarka Trail from Braunton to Meeth; and the UNESCO biosphere at Braunton Burrows.

The stone-built two and three bedroom rental cottages, sleeping up to four, five and six people, are ideal for your UK walking holiday; they are well-equipped, full of charm and character, surrounded by large enchanting gardens, with a delightful walk up and around Humphrey's Hill. Every cottage has a log fire in the living room and a private enclosed garden outside. There is a shop and an award-winning pub within 300 yards and there are excellent walks all around the village and the surrounding hills. Using the unique Moor Rover service, you can set out from your cottage, walk for most of the day and then arrange for the Moor Rover to pick you up and bring you back.

The local shop is an Exmoor Information Point and is handy for groceries, snacks, maps and guides. Outside the shop is a large scale map of Challacombe showing the open access areas. Walking maps and guides are available from the National Park online shop, or from locally based Combe Walks. Every May and Autumn there are lots of organised walks as part of the North Devon Walking Festival, and their website gives useful details. The  South West Coast Path website has good maps and descriptions of walks along the SWCP route.
