The bridleways on Exmoor are suitable for mountain biking and there are several bridleways from Challacombe over the moors, leading to Parracombe, Lynton and Brayford. There are hundreds of mountain bike routes on Exmoor, of all levels of difficulty; details of several popular routes are given in the white panel below.

For easy cycling with the whole family, the Tarka Trail follows a former railway line for over 30 miles, from Braunton to Meeth, and there are several bicycle hire and repair shops along the way. Our favourite part is from Fremington, where there is an excellent cafe and a bike hire shop, to Victorian Instow where there is a lovely sandy beach. We once hired three 'cycles' here for eight of us: a wheelchair bike, a tandem with a pull-along bike and a tricycle!

The Exmoor National Park produce a cycling map for on and off-road use, available online. The Ordnance Survey Explorer map 0L9 shows the bridleways. The Moor Rover is a unique service available on Exmoor: you can cycle across the moors all day and use the Moor Rover bus to bring you, and your bikes, back to your cottage. Safe storage for bicycles is available at the cottages.
